GRASS-FED BEEF

Grown in Stokes County, NC

Monte Vista Farm offers for sale shares of beef from our heritage breed Pineywoods and traditional Black Angus herds.

Our cattle are not fattened or finished in feedlots, and the complex, rich flavor of their meat is produced by a broad diet of grasses and pasture forages. Both of the breeds we sell are antibiotic-free, receive minimal vaccinations, and are both raised and finished without grain.

Pineywoods

A legacy of the Spanish occupation in North America, Pineywoods are a unique heritage breed. Minimally managed, and largely feral after the Spanish withdrawal in the 1700s, Pineywoods have benefited from hundreds of years of natural selection in the American South, producing a hearty and adaptable breed. Growing much smaller than traditional beef breeds, Pineywoods meat has a lower fat content and rich, robust flavor.

American (Black) Angus

A recognizable and highly marketed breed, the Black Angus is an American classic. Descended from the Scottish Aberdeen Angus, the breed is known for their size and meat yields. We have found that our animals produce a very tasty meat, notably fattier than the Pineywoods and with a more mild flavor. Included in our Angus offerings are animals that are Pineywoods/Angus cross breeds.
